Wild weather seems to be following me lately. First the ice storm, then the snow, now tornadoes nearby on my trip to Florida! Both of my flights yesterday were delayed because of weather. The first flight took off about 30 minutes late because of the need to deice before takeoff. Fortunately, I had plenty of time to make my connection. The second leg was one of the roughest I've ever been on, primarily because of the storms in the Atlanta area. This morning we found out that there was a tornado north of here last night. I woke up in the middle of the night and heard thunder but didn't really think anything of it. Today was pretty calm weather wise, though it did rain on and off all day.
That didn't stop us from having a great time at the Disney parks. The pom squads and coaches were busy with some morning and evening practice sessions, but the adults along had a free day. We hit the Magic Kingdom for the morning and early afternoon before heading over to MGM for some rides before dinner and the Fantasia show. I conquered my fear of The Tower of Terror and ended up riding it three times. I usually hate rides that drop you from big heights, but this one is really well done and the special effects are great. Plus, there's no straight drop but rather a series of ups and downs.
Tomorrow is the big competition. I'll be spending all day watching the various squads compete and running back and forth between the JV and Varsity venues. The girls are excited and getting some of the pre-competition jitters. Our teams both placed last year, so they have a lot to live up to this year.
I'm hoping for improved weather tomorrow. It's due to be colder (highs in the 60s) but the chance of rain has dropped some. I can't complain, though. It's in the teens at home!
