Deep Thoughts By Soccer Boy

I picked up Soccer Boy from his after school program at 5:40 p.m. today. By the time we got home at 6:00 p.m. he had asked me the following questions.

1. Why did Abraham Lincoln free the slaves if he was white?
2. Why did Abraham Lincoln go to the theater?
3. What play was he seeing?
4. Weren't there any policemen around to stop him from getting shot?
5. What state is Washington D. C. in?
6. Why do they have both Washington state and Washington D.C.?
7. Can the moon be blown up?
8. What would happen if the moon was blown up?
9. Did you know Pluto is not really a planet, it's just a big chunk of ice?
10. Do you know what planet we're trying to go to next?
11. Do you know how to say "friend" in Russian?
12. What did people do before there were shoes?
13. Who invented t.v.?
14. Did you know that George Washington didn't really chop down a cherry tree?
15. Do you know who Monty Harper is? He sings a song about having a loose tooth!
16. Do you know how to remember the order of directions on a map? "Never Eat Stinky Walnuts." I made that up!

Nothing like a good mental workout after a day of work! One thing I learned long ago, though, it's always best to say, "I don't know. Let's find out," than to bluff your way through an answer. So while I was impressed by my ability to dredge out some of the information from my memory banks, I'll be teaching my little sponge how to locate some of these answers on his own.
