55 Hours

That's how long it's been since I've left the house. We are still in the midst of the ice storm that's struck the Midwest. School has been cancelled for tomorrow, or actually, the professional development day that was scheduled has been cancelled. Kids were going to be out for Martin Luther King Day anyway. When my boss called to have me call my portion of the phone tree, he indicated we'd likely be out at least on Tuesday as well. If we are, that would be the last weather day that is built in to our school calendar. I'm hoping we're not out more than that since my kids are scheduled to leave for camp June 1st. If we have to make up days, we could likely go into that week.

I can't complain too much, though. The conditions are actually much worse further south where they had freezing rain rather than sleet. Evidently the freezing rain sticks to trees and power lines while sleet just falls on down to the ground. We're hearing lots of reports of power outages and ice damage, but we're not experiencing any here. I'm keeping my fingers crossed we won't lose power.

Adventure Guy was pheasant hunting this weekend but didn't get any of the storm where he was. I'm thankful he made it back home safely without too much difficulty on the roads. We did hear reports that portions of town near where his office is have lost power, so he'll have to check in the morning to find out if he'll be going into work or not. I'm happy that I did bring some of the things I need to work on my key projects home with me, or I'd be a lot more concerned about getting into the office myself. As it is, I'm just going to continue to enjoy this unexpected time off and focus on getting a little work done around the house and on my work projects in between catching up on my reading and trying to keep the kids from going stir crazy!

You have been on my mind for days. I hope everyone is safe and sound near you. The storm reports have been just awful.

Get some work done and do some reading, too.

I haven't posted (read: whined) about it, but we've been frozen up here as well. It snowed 3-4 inches last week, but the temp hasn't gotten above freezing. I've left the house only twice since then and both times were precarious on the side streets. I sympathize! 2 more inches predicted for tomorrow and then finally...temps above freezing! Whoo hoo!
